As I was painting in our studio one night, I was staring at our Ikea Billy bookcase hack and it hit me—why not make an Ikea pantry using a Billy bookshelf or two in our pantry? I literally ran to grab the tape measurer and with trembling hands checked the spacing. It would fit! Hooray. A quick google search showed me that the Ikea pantry cabinet idea was not new. Ikea pantry storage using Billy bookshelves has had lots of great success, so I was super excited to get started. So we grabbed a 15” and a 31” Billy at our last Ikea trip.

Sometimes shelves just don’t cut it. Sure, they’re great for storing tall appliances, but when it comes to clunky canned food, it’s so much easier to pull your storage out. These IKEA-hacked drawers allow you to customize your pantry as you see fit.See more at IKEA Hackers »

19. Cart Rescue: Small in stature but bold in color, the IKEA bar cart is the hero of the kitchen. Tuck it in the pantry for extra storage, use it as a mini island or set it up as a coffee bar — this little guy does it all. (via Hampton SC)

6. Wall of Drawers: If space is limited in your house, you must get creative with storage. These wooden IKEA CD drawers came in sets of two, so the homeowners bought 30, then whitewashed them and created a wall of drawers in their pantry. (via Design*Sponge)

Another option is to scavenge Craigslist for a great deal on a kitchen cabinet. You could look for a vintage pie safe, or a Hoosier cupboard. These can be great pieces of furniture in their own right, and while they may function as a pantry for now, they may serve another purpose later in your home.

1. Marble Island: No, that isn’t contact paper. But buying a tiny piece of marble sure is cheaper than redoing the whole kitchen. Or, if you want to save a little dough, just paint the IKEA Beckvam kitchen cart a deep gray and add pretty gold hardware for a sophisticated little island you’ll love forever. (via Oliver and Rust)

Since every kitchen is customizable, the exact price is going to vary. However, IKEA has provided a few examples — shown in the slideshow — of 10’x10′ kitchen setups to give us a ballpark price. The prices shown include cabinets, fronts, drawers, interior shelving, hinges, toe kicks, legs, and cover panels. (Countertops, sinks, faucets, knobs and handles, appliances and lighting are sold separately.)

This looks like something that could work for you! It looks like an IKEA shelving unit or wardrobe with a glass door. We really like the semi-opaque glass door, as it helps lighten the look and feel of a kitchen, while still blocking cans and boxes from view.

13. Kitchen Sink: Don’t know about you, but sometimes that area under the sink makes us cringe. Organize that pile of cleaning supplies, garbage bags and other miscellaneous things with the IKEA Knuff magazine files. (via Apartment Apothecary)

One of the main issues with our pantry before was having 100% open shelving. It wasn’t working for us. There are some food items that are beautiful and absolutely can earn a place as functional and tasty décor–have you ever noticed how beautiful Basmati rice grains are? Or rows of beans—green lentils, red kidney beans and purpley-blue black beans. What about fluffy flour piled in a jar or shimmering pyramids of sugar? God did good, food is pretty!

We opted to splurge on Ikea billy bookcase doors for each one—they are absolutely perfect! They are glass on the top half, for the pretties, and solid on the bottom half for the others.

Here, a white IKEA bookshelf gets wheels and a brand-new countertop, all of which fits snuggly under a wooden L-shaped table. Need more seats? Push the shelf out and add some stools in the back.

While these tin cans were originally created to hold spatulas and serving spoons, they work just as well for your not-so-cute under-the-sink tools, like dish scrubbers. Use adhesive tabs to hang them on the inside of your cabinet so they’re easy to reach.
